What to gather before your first consultation

Nothing here is required. Everything here saves time.

Most people arrive at a first consultation with nothing but worry. That is fine: we can work with it. If you have a little time, though, these papers let us answer in thirty minutes what would otherwise take three meetings.

About the marriage and the children

  • Date and place of the marriage
  • The children’s names, birth dates and where they live
  • Any earlier court orders, from any country

About money

  • The last two years of tax returns
  • Recent pay stubs for you and, if you have them, your spouse
  • Statements for bank, retirement and credit card accounts
  • Mortgage, car loans and other debts
  • Deeds or leases, and papers for any business or ranch

About what you want

Write one page: what you want to be true a year from now. It does not have to be legal. It only has to be honest.

If papers are missing

Do not wait to call. We can request records, and we would rather begin with what you have than have you delay for a form.

Bring what you have.

Even an empty folder is a fine place to begin.

Please don't send confidential details through the form.
