Divorce
A divorce is a long list of small decisions.
We help you make them in the right order, whether you and your spouse agree on most of it or on none.
The house, the accounts, the retirement, the business, the schedule for the children: a court will either approve each decision you make or make it for you. We would rather you made it, with advice, and wrote it down.
We tell you early what is likely and what is not, so you can choose between a settlement and a hearing with the facts in hand.
In a divorce we handle
Dividing property and debt
Parenting plans
Spousal support
Mediation and settlement
Contested hearings and trial

How it can end
Three ways a divorce finishes.
- 01
By agreement
You and your spouse settle everything, and the judge signs it. The quickest and most private route.
- 02
Through mediation
A neutral mediator helps you reach terms. We prepare you beforehand and review the result before you sign.
- 03
Before a judge
When some issue cannot be settled, a judge decides it. We prepare for that from the first week.
What spouses ask us about ending a marriage
Do we have to go to court?
Almost always there is a filing, and often a short hearing to finalize it. A contested divorce can mean several hearings. We tell you which to expect.
How long will it take?
Most states set a minimum waiting period, and an agreed divorce is faster than a contested one. At the consultation we give you a realistic range for your situation.
Does it matter who files first?
Less than people fear. What matters is that the papers are accurate and that you understand them. Rushing to file first rarely helps.
My spouse lives in Mexico. Can we still divorce here?
Sometimes. Serving papers across the border takes extra steps and extra time. Tell us where each of you lives at the first call.
Talk through your divorce.
A first conversation is the fastest way to learn what your divorce would involve.
