How it works
From the first call to the last order.
Every family matter moves differently, but they follow the same five steps.
- 01
Step 1: A first conversation
Thirty minutes with a lawyer, in English or Spanish. You tell us what is happening, and we tell you your options and what each would involve. Bring papers if you have them; come without them if you do not.
- 02
Step 2: A written plan
Within a few days we send a short letter: what we think should happen, in what order, and what it will cost.
- 03
Step 3: The paperwork
We prepare and file what the court needs and, with your approval, send it to the other side.
- 04
Step 4: Agreement or hearing
Most family cases end in an agreement, and some need a judge. We prepare for a hearing from the first week, so a settlement is never the only plan.
- 05
Step 5: After the order
We explain the order in writing and in plain words, and we stay reachable for when life changes and the order must change with it.
Fees
What it costs, in plain words.
Most matters begin with a retainer: a deposit held in a trust account and drawn down as we work. We quote it in writing before any work begins, and we send an itemized statement each month.
Some matters, such as a marital agreement or an uncontested divorce, can be quoted as a set fee. We say so at the start. We do not take family cases for a share of what you receive.
Start with the first conversation.
Tell us what is happening and we will tell you what the consultation costs when you book.
Please don't send confidential details through the form.
